A Cimbux Tribute To Oscar Henry (Joe Phil)

Oscar Henry, also known as Joe Phil, was a founding member of the Committee for the Improvement of Buxton (CIMBUX). He was a committed member of the Board of Directors and came to be regarded as the spirit of the organization.

Joe brought a work ethic and pride to the organization that inspired his fellow Directors and made it easy to accomplish challenging tasks. He was well-known for his many talents and his generosity in sharing them with his countrymen. He featured prominently in many CIMBUX fundraising productions, including “Log Gaff”, which was well received and acclaimed in the Washington DC Buxton community.

Joe was a gentleman who had a sense of style and décor that made him stand out in a crowd. He was the entertainer, the friend, the cultural icon, the consummate Buxtonian, who was forever proud of his community and proud to serve it. His word to new members of CIMBUX was clear and urgent: they must come to work hard to achieve the mission of the organization.

The Executive and Board of Directors of CIMBUX mourn the loss of a very good friend and brother and extend condolences to the family and friends of this remarkable man. May the legacy of his love and dedication that marked his every endeavor be an inspiration to all Buxtonians. May his soul Rest in Peace.
