Graphic Graphic today visited some of the post offices where the elderly made several complains about the service they received.
One man said that he was at the post office from 6am, and did not receive his pension disbursement until after 12 noon. Hes said that some persons arrived after him was served and left.
Another said that the only way to get through is by knowing the Post Masters. He said that “the Post Masters always want something and if you don’t give them a raise than they will leave you for last in the line.”
It was also alleged that the Post Mistress of Tuschen takes money from the pensioners. “She does take money from the people every time, she doesn’t allow you to give her, she takes it out.”
One woman said in tears that the post mistress yells at her for not knowing to write her name “son me na know fo read and write and she (the PM) does holla pon me like she a ma mother.”
Meanwhile in Georgetown the pensioners were pleased to have the increase. But say there is still room for improvement. “I’m thankful that the opposition fought to give us more.”
The government in the 2012 budget had pledged an increase of GUY$600, but the opposition was not happy with the amount. They wanted to raise the pension to GUY$15.0000 per person.
Following the budget debate the two opposition party came away with an agreement for GUY$10,000 per person.
