Jasmat “Doris” DeSilva, 84, passed away early Monday morning, January 2nd, peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Jasmat was born in Plantation Versailles, Guyana, on April 23rd, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Bhudo Ramkaran and Bhagwanden Ramkaran and the eldest of three siblings. She married her husband, Josephus Avellinus DeSilva, and raised six children while learning various trades and became a master confectioner. She was cherished and respected by her family who, through her own perseverance, she passed on the knowledge and means to overcome hardships and struggles in life. Jasmat was a dedicated follower of Christ and will be remembered for her generosity, determination and loving personality.
Jasmat was pre-deceased by her sister Noisy Ramkasoon, her brother-in-laws Jacob Ramkasoon, Tony DaSilva and John DaSilva, her son Antony DeSilva, her daughter Patricia DeSilva, and her grandsons Richard DeSilva and Andy Hanif.
Survived by her adoring husband, Josephus Avellinus DeSilva, of 60 years; her beloved children, Anand Persaud (spouse Lena), Gregory Desilva (spouse Omedavia), Desiree Mohamed (spouse Fazal), and Marceline Hanif (spouse Ayube); her precious grandchildren, Savita, Rohan, Natasha, Farida, Paulette, Zorina, Janssen, Antony, Jason, Rosana, Lotoya Christopher, Tashana, Alessia, Talesha, Michael and Kevin; her loving nephews, Davanand, Parbanand, Patrick and Derick and her 17 great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by her loyal dogs Faith, Ace and Maximus.
