Mr. John Oliver Farley, age 83, died at his home in Atlantic Gardens on Thursday, April 24th, 2014. He died peacefully surrounded by his family with the words of the song “It is well with my soul” comforting him. We honor the life of John Farley; he was a husband, father brother, uncle friend and mentor. John was known by many names Uncle John, Daddy John and John Farl.
John was born on June 24th, 1930 in Fyrish village Corentyne, Berbice. He was the son of Norman and Juliet. John spent his early years living in Fyrish where he attended St Columbus Church of Scotland primary school. Later he attended Enterprise high school in Georgetown where he completed his junior Cambridge exams. John started his working life as clerk in the Whim Magistrate Court. John later settled in Georgetown, where he worked as a Law Clerk at the Ministry of Housing, and received a commission as a Justice Of the Peace and Commissioner of Oaths and Affidavits.
John was a long serving member of the Lodge Brotherhood in Guyana and the Caribbean. He was a member of the Garland Flower, Forrester’s and Carnation Lodges. During his distinguished 50 plus years of service, John held many positions in the Lodge: Past Worshipful Master Garland Flower Lodge, Grand Secretary of the Caribbean District Order of Ancient Free Gardeners, Supervisor of the Carnation Flower Lodge, Permanent Secretary of the rose of the East Lodge Grand United order of Oddfellows, Member of the Court Georgetown Lily order of Forestry
John is survived by wife Shellion, brothers Edwin, Lawrence, Clifford Norman, Frank, Jack and his sister Barbara; children, Joslyn, Jennifer, Julian, Ronald, Eric, Joan and Oliver. Step-children Karma, Kreslyon, Kiana. Grandchildren Anthony Barrington, Sharmal McKenzie, Oliver Farley, Dale Farley, Sean Farley, Ryan Bakker, Rashad Bakker, Rayella Bakker, Daniel Farley, Reyna Farley, Jonathan Farley, June Williams, Crystal Williams, Waylon Williams, June Abigale Williams, John Christopher, Orlando Anthony Williams and George (Junior) Crawford. Great grandchildren; Shania Cummings, Cameron Farley, Jamal Richmond, Gabriel Williams and Mickey Williams
