My fellow Guyanese. Today March 21, 2019, is the constitutional deadline of 90 days for elections after the “No Confidence Motion” (NCM) passed in Parliament on Friday, December 21, 2018.
The NCM does not mean that the current administration must or should abandon its constitutional role of governance. It means that an election must be held and a new government is chosen by the citizens, and until then the current lawfully elected government must continue to administer the country’s affairs.
We must not allow ourselves to be goaded, cajoled, persuaded or paid by anyone, group, party, organization or entity to create unrest. It is your patriotic duty to ensure that the constitutionally mandated election is a peaceful event, properly administered and vetted, because any disturbance of the peace will only create doubts in the minds of investors in Guyana’s economy.
Every Guyanese has a stake in the success of Guyana and anyone who stokes the flames of disunity only seeks to harm their fellow Guyanese.
We must remain committed to the progress and development of Guyana, we owe it to the struggles of our ancestors and to the future of our children.
The current administration must be allowed to continue to govern unhindered in the best interests of Guyanese until a properly administered and vetted election is held.
