On Monday November 30, 1981 Guyana Airways Douglas DC-6A registration N3486F departing out of Vigie Airport, Castries St. Lucia enroute to Jamaica crashed after declaring an emergency.
The crew of the four engine cargo aircraft declared an emergency shortly after take-off and attempted to return for a landing when they aircraft hit a row of trees to the left of the runway, about 200 yards from the tower.

The crew, Capt. J. Snowfleet, copilot Joseph Mann, and engineer C. Munoz all from the USA, perished in the accident and a British tourist injured by flying debris was hospitalized.
