The Guyana Expo 2013 was held this year at the Georgia Piedmont Technical College, USA. The Expo was held in collaboration with Thompson Management Consulting, of Atlanta, Ga. This is the second Expo the first being held in New York in 2005.

The EXPO is a trade fair that has been created to showcase the diversity of Guyana’s trade offerings. 45 exhibitors representing Guyana’s bounty with a wide range of products and services were on hand. Everything from furniture and cabinetry to local seasonings, spices and noodles, to handcrafted leather to unique one-of-a-kind fashion and fabrics was on display.

Eco tourism an increasingly growing segment of Guyana’s tourism trade was on display with the grand Kaieteur Falls a centerpiece. Kaieteur is in fact taller than its better known cousin in the US, Niagara but the EXPO and the Guyana Tourism board is working hard to change that standing.

Uchenna Gibson and Shawn Doris were on hand from the Guyana Office of Investment. They worked with Thompson Management Consulting to coordinate the event. Thompson marketed the Expo throughout the Atlanta area with signs on MARTA buses, fliers and radio ads deployed around the region.

Both Gibson and Doris spoke go Guyana Graphic about the Expo. They were excited to be bringing the bounty of Guyana to a new audience through the Expo.

The event which ran March 16 and 17 attracted a steady stream of visitors over the two days. Visitors were not only able to see items on display; several booths made their work available for purchase during the event. And although some exhibitors were not able to show their wares because of a delay in transporting goods, brochures were available and names and contact information exchanged.

Throughout the two days there were presentations from manufacturers, and two fashion shows and the Sunday event lasted until around 10:00 pm.
