Seven persons were left homeless after a fire of unknown origin destroyed a two-flat wooden and concrete house at Lot 184, Wisroc Housing Scheme.
The blaze erupted a short while ago and affected the building’s upper and lower flats, which housed three persons upstairs and four on the lower floor. No one was at home when the fire started, and there were no reported injuries.
Officials of the Guyana Fire Service were on Sunday investigating the circumstances surrounding the blaze and working to determine its cause.
Sextagenarian Ismay Johnson, who lived in the lower flat with three relatives, said the other occupants had all been away from the home. She was operating a small shop at the front of the property when the fire began.

Johnson said she only became aware that the house was on fire after someone in the street raised an alarm.
